Recent Pirate Party for Michael!

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Being a  mother of 8 children I have plenty of opportunities to get to plan new and unique parties throughout the year. So for Michael's 8th Birthday we had a Pirate Themed Party which turned out to be a Huge success.

I made custom handmade invitations. I used cut pieces of poster board and stained them with coffee grinds. Then after they completely dried I burned the edges to give it that old paper look.

I hand wrote with a black fine point marker the Party Message which said:

"Ahoy there Matey!
Captain Michael is turning 8,
and ye be invited to a
Pirate Birthday Party to
Swab the Deck, Walk the plank,
and hunt for long lost treasure.
Chart Ye Course for
(address)
at (time)
on (date).
R.S.V.P. First Mate Mom
at (phone #)
if Ye be attending.
Come if ye dare!
Aaarrr!!!"

I then took the invitations and put them in bottles to give it that washed up on shore look.

I put sand and tiny shells in the bottom of the bottles along with the invitations and put a cork top on to keep all the goodies in.

I also made a Pirate Pinata (We ALWAYS have a Pinata at all of our Parties)

I made a treasure map for the children and the treasure was the Pinata. It was so much fun watching the children follow the map and count out their steps.

For our crafts we let the children make their own Pirate hat, and eye patch.

As for the food, we had Hot Dogs on a plate with goldfish crackers surrounding them.
The kids had so much fun. We had a lot of activities planned for outdoors like walk the plank and making their own pirate ship but it began to snow and we had to call the party short for safety reasons.
